On November 13, 2011 Victory Tabernacle shows support for the Veterans with a ceremony in their honor. The ceremony began with Sargent Major Mark Dangerfield requesting permission to set colors. Dr. Campbell granted permission and the ceremony was under way. All Veterans marched in as Sargent Major Dangerfield called alms. Once all the Veterans were in position, 1st Sargent Mary Dangerfield gave the following speech:
"As you entered the room, you may have noticed the small table set for one. It is reserved to honor our brave and selfless American military members who have perished on the battlefield, those who have not been returned to us after being taken prisoner on foreign soil, and for those who went missing and have not found their way back home. This table symbolizes that all of those Americans are with us here in spirit.
We should never forget the brave men and women who answered our nation's call and served the cause of freedom in a special way. We are ever mindful that the sweetness of enduring peace has always been tainted by the bitterness of personal sacrifice. We are compelled to never forget that while we enjoy our daily pleasures, there are others who have endured the agonies of pain, deprivation and death. We will never forget the day America came under attack. We will never forget the fallen heroes of that day, nor the heroes of the days, weeks, months and years that preceded and followed that day. Lest I fail to mention, we will never forget those who perished without the chance to fight. Those heroes, those Americans, are also with us in spirit and we honor them with this small table set for one.
I would like to explain the meaning of the items on this special table.
The table is round - to show our everlasting concern for our fallen and our missing.
The tablecloth is white - symbolizing the purity of America, the hearts and minds of our young military members who have fallen on the battlefield and the children and civilians who perished when America was attacked.
The single red rose, displayed in a vase, reminds us of the life of each of our fallen, and the loved ones and friends who miss them each and every day.
The vase is tied with a red ribbon, a symbol of our continued determination to remember our fallen, find our missing, and display the Patriotism that is America.
A slice of lemon on a bread plate is to remind us of the bitter fate of those who will never return.
A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears endured by the friends and families of those who have fallen and of those who have not returned.
The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to find peace and sustain those lost and missing.
The glass is inverted for they cannot drink with us.
The chair is empty - they are no longer with us.
Let us remember- and never forget our fallen and missing, for surely, they have not forsaken you."
At the end of the speech TAPS was played as each member of the armed forces stood at attention and saluted the fallen and missing.
The Armed Forces present at the ceremony included Air Force, Marines, Navy, Army and National Guard. Some were active, inactive and retired.
Dr. Campbell and the congregation gave a standing ovation as the Veterans processional existed the sanctuary.
